Who was John Joshua Jauer? Elko Man Kills Boss Bob Demars After Being Fired

John Joshua Jauer, of Elko, Nevada, was found dead of a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound after shooting and killing Robert Demars, 50.

Jauer was being chased by authorities over his crime when he shot and killed himself.

Investigations later discovered that he was an employee of Sterling Crane who was being terminated from his employment when he decided to shoot and kill his boss, Demars.

On April 18, 2024, at about 7:44 A.M. this morning, Elko Police Officers were dispatched to Sterling Crane on a report of a person who had been shot.

Responding officers learned that the suspect, John Joshua Jauer, 42 years of age, had fled in a red flatbed truck.

An attempt to locate Jauer was put out to surrounding agencies and personnel from the Elko County Sheriff’s Office, Nevada State Police, and the Bureau of Indian Affairs began searching for Jauer.

The victim was located deceased inside the business and identified as Robert Demars, 50 – a well-known businessman in Elko, according to numerous tributes dedicated to him on social media.

 Police Lt. Rick Moore said; “Unfortunately, our officers responded to a murder-suicide. We were called about 7:44 a.m. to Sterling Crane, it’s just a business located on North 5th St. here in Elko.

“We soon learned that the suspect was Joshua Jauers who’s 42 years of age. He was apparently in the process of being terminated from the company when he came in and shot,”

Authorities tracked down the suspect following his attack and his truck was located a short time later at the Elko Peace Park.

As deputies arrived they heard a gunshot.

Neighborhoods surrounding the Elko Peace Park were shut down and members from the Elko Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and Elko Crisis Negotiations Team were called to assist.

Jauer was later discovered underneath a pavilion in the park suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Medical personnel transported Jauer to the Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

Both Demars’ and Jauer’s bodies are being sent to the Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy.
