Who is Joey Deloach? Statesboro Police Officer Shot By Anthony Kent

Joey Deloach, a Statesboro Police officer was shot while investigating a suspect trying to break into cars.

The incident occurred at the Copper Beach apartments, just off Veterans Memorial Pkwy in Statesboro, Ga.

Deloach came upon the suspect, Anthony Kent, half inside a car. When DeLoach went to confront Kent, the suspect pulled a gun and the shooting ensued.

Deloach was shot once in the leg, severing his femoral artery, according to Chief Mike Broadhead.

While seriously injured, Deloach was able to call for back up and when the next officer arrived, they put a tourniquet on DeLoach.

Broadhead says his officer is alert and communicating, and recovering at the hospital.

The suspect, Anthony De’Jarion Kent, was also shot and is now in custody.

Joey is married to Brittany Deloach and the couple have two children.

Brittany says her husband remembers everything from the incident and never lost consciousness.

“He just reflects on every single moment and every single second. It happened very, very quickly, probably less than 20 seconds.”

Meanwhile, a Gofundme has been set up to help the family as he recovers.
