The 4th victim murdered by Christian Ivan Soto was Jenna Newcomb, a 15-year-old who was watching movies with her sister and a friend when the suspect broke into their home.

Jenna’s friend, who was only identified by her initials, had spent the night, and the girls were watching a movie in the basement on Wednesday afternoon, Winnebago County Prosecutor J. Hanley said.

Soto followed, cornered them in the room, and began hitting the girls with the bat, Hanley said.

Jenna collapsed and lost consciousness – she never recovered.

“It’s spring break, girls watching a movie. I can’t even comprehend that,” said Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara.

Jenna has been identified as a proud student athlete at East High School.

Her teammates Bailey Carlson and Madison Owens say her personality off the field was one of love and laughter.

“She couldn’t be ever mean to you,” Carlson said. “She was always such a nice person.”

“I’ve never seen her angry once,” Owens added.

“She was always wanting to do silly pictures and running around, and after homecoming we ended up going to Schnucks to get ice cream and the little robot came around, and she said ‘she’s staring at your butt!'” Carlson said trying to hold back laughter.

“She put everything into softball and basketball. Those were her sports,” he added.

Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara says her final minutes on this earth were brave and heroic.

“Jenna’s mom wants the community to know that Jenna died saving her sister and a friend,” McNamara said.

Newcomb, postal worker Jay Larson and the pair Ramona and Jacob Schupbach were all victims of the Rockford crime spree perpetrated by Christian Ivan Soto.
