Halley Tejada and Kensly Alston - Teenage Squatters Arrested for Murder of Nadia Vitels

Two teenagers, Halley Tejada and Kensly Alston, were arrested in Pennsylvania Friday in connection to the brutal murder of NYC woman Nadia Vitels.

52-year-old Vitels was brutally murdered and her body stuffed in a duffel bag in her Manhattan apartment.

Authorities suspect the two teenagers, who were squatting in the apartment when she unexpectedly returned, of carrying out the crime.

Halley Tejada, 19, and Kensly Alston, 18, were arrested in York, Penn., about 185 miles from Manhattan for allegedly driving a stolen car.

Vitels was found in a duffel bag in a closet at a 19th floor apartment on 31st Street in Manhattan’s Kips Bay neighborhood back on March 14.

The medical examiner ruled her death a homicide due to blunt force trauma to the head.

An NYPD source said it’s alleged that Tejada and Alston were squatting in the apartment when Vitels showed up to move either herself or someone else in.

Sources say the two suspects were seen on surveillance video in the building and outside stealing Vitels’ car from the street, where it was parked.

Investigators found surveillance footage showing Vitel’s movements around the apartment building on March 10 and the teenagers entering the building shortly after.

Investigators also found items belonging to Vitel in the building’s garbage receptacle area.

Tejada and the 16-year-old are seen leaving the building on March 12, when they allegedly stole Vitel’s car. They drove to New Jersey and eventually crashed in Lower Paxton Township, Pennsylvania.

The crash led to their arrest by the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force in York, Pennsylvania.

Alston, who was allegedly driving Vitels’ Lexus at the time of the crash, initially gave officers responding to the crash a fake name.

Tejada was arrested back in December for breaking the glass door of his last known address in Manhattan. Alston has a prior as a juvenile for assault.

According to an NYPD source, Tejada is from Washington Heights and Alston is from the Bronx.

Vitels was killed after traveling to Manhattan from Spain to prepare the apartment to be occupied.

The apartment had been vacant for months after the death of her mother.

Manhattan is the most densely populated and geographically smallest of the five boroughs of New York City.
