Who were Cheryl and Shelby Brashier? Arizona Mother Kills Daughter and Herself in Murder-Suicide

An Arizona mother who shot and killed her 10-year-old daughter and then killed herself has been identified as Cheryl Brashier, of Chandler.

Chandler police discovered Brashier, 49, and her daughter Shelby, both dead from gunshot wounds at their condo near Priest Drive and Ray Road.

Cheryl was a first-grade teacher’s aide at Grace Christian Academy in Tempe.

School administrators also revealed that Shelby had just finished fourth-grade last month.

A statement from the school sent to families read: “Dear GCA Families:

“It is with extreme sadness in notifying you of the tragic deaths of Cheryl Brashier (GCA 1st grade teacher aide) and her daughter, Shelby, who were found deceased in their condominium yesterday. Cheryl was a single parent, and Shelby just completed the fourth grade last month at GCA. Both mother and daughter were well-loved and respected by their friends, co-workers, students, and their families. Shelby entered GCA in the middle of her third grade year.

“A Celebration of Life service is being planned in the coming weeks at Grace Community Church. Counseling for adults and children will be available. Stay tuned for further information. Please be discreet in the sharing of this news with others, especially with younger children.

“Please join me in prayer for God’s blessing in the midst of this tragedy in bringing healing and comfort to all those that knew and loved this beautiful family who are now with the Lord,”

Kelvin Inouye, GCA Administrator
