Who is Tyrone Campbell? Summerville Man Arrested After Hacking Co-worker to Death at North Charleston Construction Site

A Summerville man was arrested and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime after hacking his co-worker to death.

Tyrone Clayton Campbell, 33, got into an altercation with his colleague at the North Charleston construction site were they both work.

After the argument, Campbell shoved the victim to the ground and hacked him to death with a machete.

North Charleston Police Department (NCPD) were called to a construction site located at 3471 Trade Center Court off Palmetto Commerce Parkway just before 3 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

When they got there they encountered Campbell with the machete having murdered his colleague.

Police say when they confronted Campbell, he pulled the machete out of his bag and refused to drop it. The officers used a taser to subdue Campbell; he was arrested without further incident.

“It was a very violent scene, and it isn’t something that even we deal with every day. A machete is not a normal weapon that we see used in these types of instances,” said Deputy Chief Karen Cordray.

Campbell is being held at the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center, according to the NCPD. Public records show he has previously been arrested at least nine times.
